Policy Statement: UIC seeks to recognize deceased students and provide a formal document in the form of a Certificate of Achievement. Undergraduate graduate, and professional students who have maintained registration toward a degree are eligible for the Certificate of Achievement.

Posthumous Degrees and Awarding Degrees in Instances of Terminal Illness
Policy Statement: UIC seeks provide a mechanism for awarding a degree in cases where: (1) a student made significant progress toward the degree before their death, or (2) a student made significant progress toward the degree before the diagnosis of a terminal illness made it impossible to complete their program. In the past few years, UIC has awarded several degrees posthumously but only in cases where the deceased student had completed all degree requirements at the time of their death.
